Mathematics Workshop

Mathematics is one of the four specific areas within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Children learn about mathematics through play. At Ibtikaar nursery we provide a variety of daily activities that is meaningful to children learning and exploring. To help you understand how we teach mathematics through play please attend our workshop to support your child's mathematical skills at home.

Maths Curriculum in the EYFS

Counting and number facts:

  • Say and use number names 0-20.

  • Recite the number names in the correct order.

  • Count a set of objects reliably.

  • Count in tens

  • Begin to record numbers.

  • Put numbers in the correct order

 

Addition and subtraction:

  • Begin to use the language of addition (add)

  • Begin to use the language of subtraction (take away)

  • Find one more/less than a given number.

  • Begin to add/take away in real time.

 

Problem-solving:

  • Recognise and create simple patterns.

  • Solve simple puzzles and problems.

  • Begin to use and understand money.

Shape, space and measures:

  • Use language such as 'shorter than' and 'longer than'.

  • Use language to describe the shape and size of solids and flat shapes, begin to name shapes and use them to make models, pictures and patterns.

  • Begin to name and identify shapes.
